LSYC Registration

Membership in the Lake Superior Youth Chorus is available at two levels: Choristers and Concert Choir. (Please note: Our choral season runs from September through May. Participation in Choristers and Concert Choir requires a full season commitment). Annual registration fees are listed below:

The chorus level best for your singer(s) depends upon age, skill and other criteria. Therefore, it is necessary for our choir coordinator to determine the membership best for your singer(s). To become a member of the LSYC please click the new member button below and complete the new member information form. Our Choir Coordinator will contact you to help determine your singer(s)level and membership.

Singer Commitment

We expect parents and singers to understand that it is the individual singer's responsibility to conduct themselves well, to respect decisions, to be attentive, focused, and give 100% during rehearsals and performances. Singers not willing to accept that responsibility should not accept a position in one of the choirs.

We exist to help children learn to make great music. The emphasis is on learning and mastery. To master anything of significance takes a willingness to be a learner and the dedication to work hard.

Absence because of illness or family crisis should be reported to the appropriate Music Director or the Choir Parent before the rehearsal. If you are unable to do that, report it as soon as possible. Other conflicts must be discussed with your director before the absence occurs.

Singers with excessive absenteeism will have their situation reviewed by a committee from the Board of Directors. If your child is not at rehearsal and we had not been notified of an absence, a telephone call may be placed to your home to ensure the safety of your child.

If a singer has been absent from rehearsals the Choral Director may decide to withhold a singer from performing.

Discipline/Behavior: At all times a singer is to exhibit respect for himself/herself, respect for others, respect for property and respect for the program. A Discipline/Behavior policy has been adopted by the board of directors.

Family Commitment

Membership includes a commitment to excellence. This requires dedication, responsibility, loyalty, work, and time from parents and singers alike.

Family Participation with the Singer Includes:

  1. Making sure your Singer is at rehearsals and performances.
  2. Being punctual to all rehearsals and performances.
  3. Making sure your Singer has the time and takes the time to work on their music at home, helping them if necessary.
  4. Clearing all pre-excused absences with the appropriate director. Reporting all absences due to illness/family emergency to the appropriate director.
  5. Checking your Singer's folder after each rehearsal for special announcements, letters, etc.

Family Participation with the LSYC Organization Includes:

  1. Attending Parent Meetings during the year. These meetings provide opportunity for you to have input into the organization and receive updates on current plans.
  2. Complete volunteer registration information.
  3. Housing singers, whenever possible, from visiting choirs we host here.
  4. Sharing successes and concerns about LSYC with directors and board members.

Financial Assistance

LSYC has limited funds available to help those who may need assistance. It is our hope that no child would be excluded because of an inability to pay the required registration fees. All financial assistance applications submitted by September 1st.  Financial assistance will be awarded based upon available funds.  All applications for financial assistance remain confidential among the treasurer and the finance committee.
