LSYC's COVID-19 Response

Updated 3-20-20

As we navigate the global emergency surrounding COVID-19, the health and safety of our singers, families, and staff is our top priority. In light of information shared by the CDC, WHO, and our own states of Minnesota/Wisconsin, Lake Superior Youth Chorus will be making the following changes to our upcoming scheduled events:

RESIDENT CHOIRS

Cantemus, Concert Choir, Choristers, Camerata

The not so great news...
While recommendations for distancing remain in place, the following LSYC rehearsals and events will not be held.

  • Sunday Rehearsals through 5/1

  • Choristers Performance 3/29

  • Cantemus Collaboration with Luther 4/24

  • Youth Choir Festival 4/25

  • Carmina Burana Rehearsals & Performance 4/30 - 5/2

BUT LSYC IS READY FOR ANYTHING!

LSYC staff have developed a plan for the remainder of our season designed to keep LSYC singers connected while not overburdening families with mandatory work. We have one goal for the remainder of the semester - to help our singers find their voice amid all of the chaos. We intend to do this in a few ways:

  • VIRTUAL REHEARSAL SPACE. LSYC directors have created virtual rehearsal spaces for each choir to which they will post & send weekly practice goals on Sundays by 5:00pm. The first email will go out this week. If you want a sneak peek of the Virtual Rehearsal Spaces, go to "myLSYC" at www.lsyouthchorus.org.

  • WEEKLY DIRECTOR CHECK-INS. Sundays @5:00, directors will be hosting their own weekly virtual check-ins with their choir (links will be posted on rehearsal space). This will be an opportunity to connect with each other, talk, ask questions, or go over the weekly practice updates.

  • FUN ACTIVITIES. Virtual rehearsal spaces will feature an optional weekly activity that will be fun and engaging for all LSYC singers. The goal of these activities will be to keep us connected while also spreading joy to our community. #lsycrocks

  • MUSICAL MOMENTS. We want to see how music is making an impact in your life during this time. Videos or photos of any type of music-making in your home are welcomed to be submitted to LSYC. Each submission will be entered for a chance to win a prize each week. Only one submission/day is allowed. Winners will be chosen from all choirs and a prize will be mailed to the winning singers.

  • VIRTUAL CHOIR. LSYC is making plans to put together our very first virtual choir experience with "I Sing of the Northland". This will take some collaboration from our parents and families to help all of our singers participate in this experience. We hope the end result is a gift that we can give back to our community.

  • MUSIC RESOURCES. LSYC wants to help your family stay musical while being in choir-antine! Click the link below for musical resources that you can do at home! (p.s. - they're PERFECT activities if you're babysitting...) #choir-antine

PRELUDE

Congdon, Hermantown, North Star Academy, Laura MacArthur, Lester Park, Piedmont, Northern Lights

  • Prelude classes will be postponed to begin the week of April 13

  • Prelude classes will be extended by 15-30 minutes to make up for lost instruction time.

  • Prelude instructors will finalize and communicate the exact class time extensions as it applies to each site.

Myers-Wilkins

  • Prelude at this location has been canceled for Spring 2020

LSYC is exploring ways that we can creatively serve our mission while also keeping our singers safe and adhering to the recommendations or mandates that come from government and health officials.
