Growing Beyond One Community

1998

As singers joined from across the region, the organization became the Lake Superior Youth Chorus, reflecting a mission to serve youth throughout the greater Twin Ports. Today, LSYC welcomes singers from dozens of schools and communities from northern Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin who come together through a shared love of music and making a difference in the world.

A New Chapter as an Independent Nonprofit

2005

Incorporating as a nonprofit organization marked an exciting step forward, creating new opportunities to expand programming, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure that generations of young singers would continue to have access to a high-quality choral music education.

Recognition for Artistic Excellence

2007

LSYC received the Silver Touchstone Award from the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation for its groundbreaking opera collaboration with Minnesota Opera. The recognition affirmed the organization's belief that young people thrive when they are challenged through high-quality and meaningful artistic experiences.

Sharing Our Voices Across Minnesota

2014–2015

LSYC singers were featured at Minnesota Public Radio's Harmony in the Park, showcasing the artistry and energy of Twin Ports youth on a statewide stage. Throughout the years, LSYC has also performed on Minnesota Public Radio and collaborated with organizations including the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra, Minnesota Opera, University of Minnesota Duluth, and Northland Opera Theater.

Statewide Recognition

2018-2023

LSYC's premier ensemble, Cantemus, was selected to perform at the American Choral Directors Association of Minnesota State Conference – one of the state's highest honors for choirs. These invitations recognized the musical excellence, artistry, and dedication of LSYC's young singers and conductors.

Discovering Every Voice

Today

More than 30 years after its founding, Lake Superior Youth Chorus continues to serve hundreds of young people through resident choirs and outreach programs grounded in holistic music education. Every rehearsal, performance, and friendship reflects the same mission that inspired our beginning: helping every child discover their voice and the confidence to share it with the world.
